Special attention must be paid to nutrition of pregnant women in anganwadi kendras

Bhopal: Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel today reached anganwadi Kendra at Sindhi Colony Prakash Nagar, Ujjainwhere she met pregnant women and children. She presented baskets with fruits to the children at the Kendra. The Governor said that the food provided to the pregnant women should be both delicious and nutritious.  She said that nutritious and balanced meal is essential for children also for their development.

Governor Smt. Patel said that the Centre has introduced the Pradhan Mantri Matra Vandana Yojana for pregnant women and lactating mothers. Under this scheme financial aid of Rs 6 thousand is deposited directly into the bank accounts of the pregnant women by the centre so that they can be provided with nutritious diet. This will help reduce child and mother mortality rate. Smt. Patel said that if we succeed in making pregnant women and children secure, only then will we be able to realize the dream of a golden and bright India . While inspecting the anganwadi kendra Governor Smt. Patel asked the workers as to how many children come on time and whether they were being provided food according to the menu or not.

The Governor performed the ritual of ‘annaprashan’ of small children at the anganwadi kendra. She cut the cake of those children who were celebrating their birthdays and wished them a bright future. She also honoured pregnant women by performing their ‘godbharai’. She distributed certificates to beneficiaries under Ladli Lakshmi Yojana.-Window To News
