Thirty projects made to stop water: Union Minister Gadkari

Bhopal: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated Pancham Nadi Mahotsav at Bandrabhan of Hoshangabad district, the conjunction point of Narmada and Tawa river today.

Gadkari said that the problem of water in the country will not solve till we do not conserve water. We will have to work by understanding the importance of water conservation. He further mentioned that 70 percent water of the earth goes unused; therefore 30 projects costing Rs. 8 crore 50 lakh have been made in the country to manage this water. He informed that the union government will spend Rs. 5 lakh 50 thousand crore on Ganga project. Gadkari said that efforts are being made by the union government to promote river tourism. Sea bus and airplanes have been purchased for this.

Moreover, Gadkari informed that his department had earned revenue of Rs. 18 crore by selling toilet recycled water 5 years ago. A target to sell recycled water worth Rs. 78 crore has been set for this year. We have started plying bus by using methane gas obtained from sewerage. He gave suggestion to use 8 percent plastic with asphalt for constructing roads in village and district panchayats. Gadkari mentioned that the sea water is being sold as potable water after the purification. He said that implementation on the suggestions and conclusions obtained from the Nadi Mahotsav will be carried out by the union government. Lauding the state government, he said that the state government is undertaking special works for environment conservation.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Narmada Seva Yatra was conducted for river conservation. Awareness towards river conservation has been generated among the people under this 5 month long yatra. Out of total of 6 crore 63 lakh saplings planted in July, 2017, 80 percent are alive. Chouhan said that 7 crore saplings will be planted again on July 15, 2018 and 313 rivers of the state will be revived. Revival work of ponds will be carried out. Work to establish sewerage plants in 20 districts, located on the banks of Narmada river has been started. Work to construct muktidhams, poojan kunds at villages situated on the river’s banks and activity to make the area addiction free is underway. The Chief Minister said that as a result of increase in irrigation resources, the state has produced a bumper crop of wheat, gram, urad, onion, garlic. Work to establish processing center is being carried out in this connection. He mentioned that a campaign for organic farming is being started from the Narmada bank. A future strategy will be made on the basis of conclusions of Mahostav.

The Union Minister Gadkari and the Chief Minister Chouhan also released a book ‘Narmada Parikrama Marg’ written by the Former Union Minister Late Anil Madhav Dave. Message of Satguru Jaggi Vasudev on Nadi Mahotsav was also broadcasted on this occasion.

Sah-Sarkaryavahak Suresh Soni, Swami Parmatmanand also addressed the programme. Member of Parliament Rao Uday Pratap Singh, MLA and Former Minister Sartaj Singh, Vice President B.J.P.
