Irrigation facility to be provided on 9 lakh hectare area in Bundelkhand region

Bhopal: A target to triple the current irrigation capacity during the next 7 years in Bundelkhand region of the state has been set. There is a proposal for investment worth Rs. 34 thousand 670 crore for Bundelkhand region. The state government has taken an action to increase the irrigation capacity in the entire state.

Currently, the irrigation area of the state is about 40 lakh hectare. During the next 3 years 54 lakh hectare from the projects of Water Resources department, 20 lakh hectare area from the projects of Narmada Valley Development Authority and 10 lakh hectare area from the Agriculture and Rural Development department will be irrigated. In this way, about 84 lakh hectare area will get irrigation facility.

In order to fully utilise the available resources, pace has been accelerated to implement schemes. There is an investment proposal worth Rs. One lakh 10 thousand 500 crore till 2025 in the state. A provision of Rs. 7030 crore has been made in the budget of the Water Resources department The Bundelkhand region will get benefit of irrigation facility on 4 lakh 15 thousand hectare area from just Ken-Betwa project. In addition to this, irrigation capacity will enhance from 60 thousand hectare from the Kotha project, 10 thousand hectare from the Midhwasa project and 8 thousand hectare area from Kopra project. The main ongoing irrigation projects in Bundelkhand region include Sajli, Panchamnagar, Bansujara, Bina, Surajpura, Sonpur, Parkul, Pawai, Majhgai, Bariyapur and Tarped. The approved projects include Judi, Runj, Kadan and Satdharu projects.

Work is being carried out speedily in Madhya Pradesh to conserve every single drop of and to supply the water to the farms of the farmers through irrigation projects to realise the call of “Per Drop- More Crop” of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Repair works of canals are being carried out at the campaign level. Lining works of canals which have been carried out to stop seepage loss has yielded result to restore irrigation capacity on about 21 thousand hectare area.-Window To News
