Fair price shops to be multi-purpose: CM Chouhan

Bhopal: A scheme to change the fair price shops in the state into multipurpose shops is being made. In the first phase, 1,000 fair price shops are being transformed into multipurpose shops as an experiment. Consumers will get minimum 5 percent discount from MRP in these shops. Cooperative Department will prepare a software to implement the system. The scheme was presented in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the Mantralaya today.The Chief Minister issued instructions to implement the scheme in the form of a pilot scheme. Information of the outcome of the implementaion should be presented. Chief Secretary B.P Singh was also present on the occasion.

It was told on the occasion that cheap and good quality commodities will be made available to consumers at the fair price shops. This will extend the period of opening of the fair price shops besides increasing their utility. There are total 22 thousand 396 fair price shops out of which 18 thousand 96 shops are in rural areas. State Co-operative Consumers Federation will be the nodal agency for the implementation of the scheme. A proper committee will be constituted under the chairmanship of Commissioner Cooperatives for policy-based decisions.

Additional Chief Secretary P.C. Meena, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Ashok Vernawak, Vivek Agrawal and Hariranjan Rao, Principal Secretary Cooperatives K.C.
