Bhopal : Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will lay foundation of Bistan Lift Irrigation Scheme on January 15. Programme will be conducted at 2.00 p.m. at village Bistan of district Khargone. Minister for School Education Kunwar Vijay Shah, Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development (Independent Charge)  Lal Singh Arya, Members of Parliament  Nandkumar Singh Chouhan and  Subhash Patel will be the special guests in the programme. MLAs  Balkrishna Patidar,  Vijay Singh Solanki,  Hitendra Singh Solanki,  Raj Kumar Mev,  Jhuma Solanki,  Sachin Yadav and President Jila Panchayat Kamla Kedar Dabar will be the guests on the occasion.

It may be mentioned that the maximum area of Goganva, Bhagwanpura and Khargone tahsils was not coming under the irrigation command area despite covering 69 thousand hectare area of Khargone tahsil from Indira Sagar Major Irrigation Project. Beside less traditional irrigation resources in this area, the complete area also comes under the less rainfall category. An outline of lift irrigation system is prepared by the Narmada Valley Development Authority to provide irrigation water from the Narmada River. This system will facilitate irrigation on 22 thousand hectare area of Goganva, Bhagwanpura and Khargone tahsils. This lift irrigation scheme will prove fruitful for the prosperity of farmers of this area.

Under the scheme, 8 cumex water will be lifted by building jack well at the main canal R.D. 101 kilometer of Indira Sagar Project near village Mohammadpur of Khargone district. Lifted water will be delivered to the booster pump located at Devalgaon through 8 kilometer long rising main. From here, water will be lifted and supplied to the distribution chamber no.1 at village Meherghati through 8 kilometer long rising main. This distribution chamber will facilitate irrigation on 14 thousand 680 hectare area. Moreover, 2.304 cubic meter water will be lifted from the distribution chamber no.1 and supplied to distribution chamber no. 2 through 6 kilometer long rising main to provide irrigation facility on 7,320 hectare area.

Features of Irrigation System

Under the traditional irrigation schemes, irrigation water is provided to each 40 hectare area. Farmers on their own make arrangements to take water to their fields from this. Land is leveled and water flow arrangements are made under this system. The specialty of the Bistan lift irrigation scheme is that an outlet will be provided at every 2.5 hectare area. Minimum 20 meter high pressure will be received at the outlet. In this situation, farmers will be able to irrigate their lands adopting sprinkler system or drip irrigation system easily. The Prime Minister has urged for Per Drop More Crop means to irrigate more land with minimum water without water wastage. This Bistan Irrigation Scheme of Khargone district will fulfill the intention of the Prime Minister. The Bistan lift irrigation scheme will be constructed by the joint undertakings M/s H.C.C. - L.C.E.SP.L. A construction cost of Rs. 374 crore 63 lakh has been estimated on this scheme. Thirty months target has been set to complete the scheme.

More than 61 thousand villagers of 92 villages of Khargone, Gogavan and Bhagwanpura tahsils of district Khargone will be benefited from the scheme. Moreover this scheme will provide irrigation facility on a total of 22 thousand hectare land including 1900 hectare land of 8 villages of Khargone tahsil, 11 thousand 300 hectare area of 47 villages of Gogavan tahsil and 8800 hectare area of 37 villages of Bhagwanpura tahsil. -WTN
