International trade in Madhya Pradesh touches 2.4 billion dollars

Bhopal: Presenting the Export Promotion Report of Madhya Pradesh, the Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM) revealed that the International Trade of Madhya Pradesh has been 2.4 billion dollars in 2016-17. It is ranked 15th in the country among states. The state's export is 1.6 percent of the total international exports of the country.

According to the study report of EXIM Bank, Madhya Pradesh can achieve a target of 10 billion dollars by 2021-22. For this, important steps will be taken in many phases with policy decisions. The report states that the percentage of medicines exported from Madhya Pradesh is the highest. There is a need to make efforts in many areas to increase exports of other products especially in making better resources of tourism, storage and transport available and marketing of local products with the coordination of neighbouring states can play a significant role in increasing international trade.

Obtaining the GI tag to new products of the state will help in achieving the goal of 10 billion dollars by 2022. Only 7 items/products of Madhya Pradesh have so far been given the G.I. tag. G.I. tag has been given to Chanderi clothes, leather toys of Indore, Bagh print, metal crafts of Datia and Tikamgarh, Maheshwari Sarees, Ratlami Sev and Kadak Nath Murga under the Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act 1999, related to the World Trade Organization.

According to study report, Madhya Pradesh can apply for G.I. tag by marking new products in separate areas. If a policy is made for regional products along with G.I. tag for commodities like Chanderi saree (Chanderi), Mawa Jalebi (Burhanpur), Poha (Indore), Jali work (Gwalior) etc, Madhya Pradesh will be able to create a special identity at the international level and the demand of the international market will be met.

At present, 14 products of Andhra Pradesh and 30 products of Karnataka have received maximum G.I. tags in the country.-Window To News
