Governor Smt. Patel meets President’s Medal recipient police officials and employees
Bhopal: Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel today met the police officials and employees of Madhya Pradesh Police who received the President’s Medal. Extending best wishes the Governor said that Madhya Pradesh is the first state to have made provision for death by hanging to rapists of minors. The accused are being penalized in a very short time due to prompt action by the police officials/employees in rape cases of minors and presentation of evidence. Law and order system in Madhya Pradesh is satisfactory due to the constant effective efforts of the police. There is need for the Police to strengthen its benevolent image further.
Governor Smt. Patel said that there is a spate in cyber crimes due to advanced techniques, internet and social media. There is need to focus on police modernization to improve law and order system and check crime. Felicitation of brave, determined and courageous police officials-employees with medals is a matter of pride for whole state.
The Governor said that the police have made several innovations with the aim of strengthening girls and women in self-defence and for awareness towards crimes against women. URJA (Urgent Relief and Just Action) desks are being set up in 180 police stations of 12 district of the state.
Throwing light on the activities of the Police, Director General of Police Rishi Kumar Shukla said that Madhya Pradesh Police is committed towards protection of the state. He said that police have taken the incidents of exploitation of women and rape as a challenge. Taking prompt action, the accused in 10 cases of rape of minors were given death sentence. Chairman of M.P Police Housing Corporation Vijay Kumar Singh, Special Director General, Police Reforms Maithilisharan Gupta, Secretary to the Governor D.D. Agrawal, senior police officers, medal recipient officers and employees were present on the occasion.
