Bhopal: Narmada Seva Yatra to become milestone for river conservation
CM Chouhan takes stock of proposed programmes for Narmada Jayanti
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Narmada Jayanti would be celebrated at grand level this year in the state. Different programmes will be organised on February 3 on river conservation and explaining glory of mother Narmada. Discussing the proposed programmes to be held on the occasion of Narmada Jayanti, he issued instructions to start execution on resolutions taken during the yatra in districts the yatra has already covered.
In a meeting with officers at Mantralaya today, the Chief Minister said that marathon race, Bhajan, song competitions would be organised on February 3, the occasion of Narmada Jayanti in all 16 districts situated on the banks of river Narmada. Painting, speech and essay competitions will be held at school level for students up to higher secondary at district level. Winners and runner-ups will be awarded. These activities would be held at district level on differant days also. Symposium would be organised on river conservation in a district on February 3 in which renowned persons of this field would be invited. Chief Minister will also participate in the symposium.
Chouhan said that people have great enthusiasm over Narmada Seva Yatra. Up-yatra of each district should be incorporated with major yatra with intention to connect people of entire state. It would be a state wide campaign. He said that construction of Poojan Kunds and measures for prevention of dirt in the river should be ensured in the districts the yatra has covered. The yatra is getting response from persons of international and national repute. He said that this ambitious campaign for river conservation would be a mile stone. It was informed that 1, 18, 085 farmers have started initiative for plantation in 1, 44, 377 hectare area. Total 11,791 saplings have been planted and 8,452 people have taken resolution for de-addiction.
In-charge Chief Secretary AP vastava, Additional Chief Secretary forests Deepak Khandekar, Principal Secretary Culture, Manoj vastava, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister SK Mishra and other officers were present in the meeting.
