Make permanent strong rooms in districts for EVM within time-limit: Chief Electoral Officer

Review meeting of PIU officers of Public Works Department concludes
Bhopal: Chief Electoral Officer V. L Kanta Rao said that strong rooms costing Rs 65 crores are being constructed for E.V.M in each district of the state on the directions of the Election Commission of India. Land has been allotted for the same in all the districts by the District Returning Officer and construction work has also begun in several districts. Public Works Department has been made the nodal agency in all districts. Rao has directed the ENC of Public Works Department PIU Vijay Singh Verma to get the strong rooms being constructed at 53 places in the state well before time.
In the districts where the strong rooms are to be completed by December 2019, there the rooms should be completed before March 2019. In the districts including Sehore, Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Khandwa, strong rooms for E.V.M should be constructions by February 15, 2019 so that the rooms can be used for Lok Sabha elections.
Rao said that all engineers after a review regarding strong rooms with the collectors of respective districts should present a report for creation of strong room of up to G Plus 3 and G Plus 4 in the district headquarters with lack of space. In this connection separate rooms should be made for security personnel besides construction of boundary walls on four sides of all the strong rooms of the state.
Chief Electoral Officer instructed the Chief Engineer Verma to present the review report of the proceedings regarding the strong room after a tour of Gwalior, Chambal and Rewa division within a week. Divisional officers of the Public Works Department PIU were present at the meeting.-Window To News
