Special checking of individuals arriving by personal plane and helicopter should be done - Kanta Rao

Bhopal: The Chief Electoral Officer V.L. Kanta Rao has said that special checking of passengers arriving by personal plane and helicopter should be done at airports. Moreover, the baggage of passengers arriving by commercial flights and personal planes should also be checked. The Income Tax department should be informed immediately if anyone is found travelling with Rs. 10 lakh cash, one k.g. gold and jewellery.
In the review meeting of monitoring and election expenditure, Rao said that prohibitive action should be constantly taken in order to hold fair and transparent election. All the illegal activities to influence voters should be stopped. The teams of District Administration and Police should conduct raids. The Union Ministry for Finance and Home have been told to increase number of officers in Madhya Pradesh for effective activities of the Central Bureau of Investigation and Central Narcotics Department.
KantaRao vide his letter to the District Election Officers has given instructions that special vigilance should be kept on all the activities carried out to influence election. Raids should be conducted to prevent transportation and storage of liquor, drugs and cash. Any kind of illegal transportation of cash, liquor and other things from any district to the other district must be stopped.
The Chief Electoral Officer has informed in the review meeting that challans worth Rs. 4 core have been made by the Transport and Police department under the Motor Vehicle Act. The Police and Excise department have registered over 9 thousand cases and seized over 50 thousand litres of liquor (of over Rs. One crore value) from 6 till 21 October. Total 4 k.g. opium and 175 grams of brown sugar has been seized by the Central and State Narcotics department. Moreover, gaanja, smack, brown sugar worth Rs. 5 crore has been confiscated by the Police Department. The Income Tax department has seized currency worth Rs. 14 lakh after the model code of conduct has come into effect in the state and the police and income tax department have registered 28 cases by confiscating cash and material worth over Rs. 2 crore 80 lakh.
