Different programmes to be held in state between January 28 and February 2

Country's main function in Bhopal on February 2

Different contests and programmes are being organised between January 28 and February 2 on World Wetlands Day. As per directives of Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, programmes will be organised in 25 water reservoirs earmarked in Ramsar Convention. The main programme of the country will be held in Bhopal. Upper Lake of Bhopal is one of the earmarked wetlands.

Executive director of EPCO  Anupam Rajan said that to convey the importance of wetlands and their protection to common people, World Wetlands Day (WWD) is celebrated every year on February 2. Week-long programmes are organised on this occasion. In the series of programme, 55 students of eco-club of Bhopal watched birds near Bhoj Wetland (Upper Lake). Experts informed them about birds of Madhya Bharat and migratory ones.

Painting contest on January 30

 Rajan said that around 200 students of 12 government schools will participate in painting contest on water conservation in EPCO premises on January30. Best three paintings will be given cash award of Rs. 3000 each. Along with this, 1500 students of 75 government schools of eco-club of 15 districts will participate in painting, essay and quiz contest.  Each school has been given Rs. 10,000 for holding of the programme.

Wetlands walk in Van Vihar on February 1

 Rajan informed that Wetland Walk will be held on February 1 in Van Vihar national park at 6 am. Participants will gather in EPCO premises and will be brought to Van Vihar by a bus. The walk will end with presentation and discussion on lakes.

Wetlands talk in EPCO Auditorium

 Rajan said that Wetland Talk will be held in EPCO auditorium on February 1 at 4 pm. Renowned environmentalist and water expert  Himanshu Thakkar will deliver lecture on importance of wetlands, challenges and solutions.

Fine arts contest in colleges

Fine arts contest will be held in three selected government colleges in Bhopal on natural beauty of Bhopal lake. EPCO will provide material to participants. Best three drawings will be given cash prize of Rs. 5000 each.

Photography contest on January 31

Based on Upper Lake of Bhopal, photography contest will be organised on January 31 by EPCO. Professional and amateur photographers can participate in the contest without any charge. Each participant can submit maximum two entries to EPCO office by January 31. Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 cash prizes will be given to the first three entries in both the categories.

National Workshop on February 2

National workshop on wetland issue will be held on February 2 in which senior officers of union ministry of environment, scientists and subject experts will participate. Exhibition of paintings and photographs will be held there. Detail information about the programme is available on www.epco.in and www.climatechangeportal.mp.gov.in.
