Culture Minister Dr. Sadho to inaugurate Nimar festival on February 4

Bhopal: Culture Minister Dr. Vijayalakshmi Sadho will inaugurate the three-day Nimar festival at Devi Ahilya Ghat, Maheshwar in Khargone district on February 4. The festival based on traditional performing arts and literature will be inaugurated with a presentation by famous playback singer Udit Narayan after Maa Narmada Maharati and Shankh dhwani. On the same day, a boat decoration competition will also be held at the ghat from 3 pm.

The festival which is being organized by the Tribal Folk Art and Dialect Development Academy, Madhya Pradesh Sanskriti Parishad, in collaboration with the Department of Culture and the South Central Cultural Center, Nagpur will conclude on February 6. The performances on February 5 include Nimadi songs by Babulal Parihar team from Badwaha and Bija tribal dance, Gangaur and Matki folk dance of Madhya Pradesh, Dandiya Ras and Garba of Gujarat, Holi and Peacock of Uttar Pradesh, Lingo of Maharashtra, Gaur Madiya of Chhattisgarh, Kampu Koya of Andhra Pradesh and Dappu dance of Telangana. Vishal Kochle of Maheshwar will perform at Qila Parisar from 11 am. Kunwar Uday Singh 'Anuj', Harish Dubey, Shishir Upadhyay, Atul Dave, Vinod Chavre 'Lahiri', Narendra Joshi, Deepak Pagare, Vishnu Phagna, Jayashree Upadhyay and Virendra Chourey will participate in a populist poetry programme to be organized on the same morning.

On the closing day, Manisha Shastri will present Nimadi songs with her group, Namami Sonkia will present devotional songs and Mira Das and group will give an Odissi dance performance. The same day, Rahat Indori, Vishnu Saxena of Aligarh, Sampat Saral of Bikaner Sita Sagar of Gaziabad, Sandeep Sharma of Dhar and Sabiya Asar and Vijay Tiwari of Bhopal will take part in a Kavi Sammelan. A wrestling competition will also be held in School of Excellence ground from 10 a.m. This is the silver jubilee year of the Nimar festival which began in the year 1994.
