Youths should convert India from developing to developed country

Governor OP Kohli in 13th convocation of Agriculture University in Jabalpur
Bhopal : Governor and Chancellor Omprakash Kohli conferred upon degrees, gold medal and cash prizes to students in the 13th convocation of Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University in Jabalpur. In the convocation ceremony, the governor called upon youths to put their full energy and efficiency in converting India into developed country from developing country.
The governor said that India was known 60 years ago as a developing country and still it is today even known as a developing country. This status should be changed. India should be known as developed country in the world. Youths can do it because we have over 50 percent population of youths.
The governor said that agriculture is very important sector for us. It is a backbone of your economic development. Agriculture scientists have challenges to increase productivity of crops. New researches have to be carried out to meet-out needs of food grains and other nutrition for rising population. The governor said that along with enriching with knowledge and wisdom, agriculture graduates would be able to connect them with poor farmers if they are sensitive and compassionate.
Director General of Indian Council for Agriculture Research, Delhi and secretary of agriculture research and education department Dr Trilochan Mahapatra delivered convocation address. He said that the country was dependent on other countries for food grains after the Independence. Today, we are now not only independent but also doing export. Increase has been made in food grains, milk production, egg production and fish production in many folds but we need to increase our
production of pulses and oilseeds. Agriculture production and productivity will have to be increased as per needs of rising population. Today, climate change has emerged as a challenge. He said that if temperature is increased one degree Celsius, wheat production is decreased by 10 to 12 percent.
He appreciated the charismatic success achieved by Madhya Pradesh in agriculture sector and described it as emulating for other states. He said that Madhya Pradesh attracted attention of entire state by securing Krishi Karman award fourth times. The credit for this goes to agriculture scientists, farmers' hard work and agriculture policy makers. He asked agriculture scientists to prepare new seeds according to present needs. Twentry percent of increase in production depends upon seeds. He emphasised on increase in production, processing of crops, value addition and market connectivity for doubling farmers' income.
Vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University Prof Vijay Singh Tomar informed about new veariety of wheat, soyabean by the university. He said that soybean breeds derived by the university is used in 90 percent area in the country. He presented shawl, shral and memento to the guests.
Honorary D.Sc. was conferred upon to vice-chancellor of Central Agriculture University, Imphal, Dr RB Singh and state election commissioner and former chief secretary, R Parsuram. In the programme, gold medals were given to 22 students of agriculture, forestry, and agriculture engineering. Cash prizes were given to seven and Ph D to 44 students and post graduation degree to 608 students. Total 674 students were feted.
Vice-chancellor of Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary University, Prof PD Juyal, Rani Durgavati University Dr Kapildev Mishra and chancellor of medical university Dr RS Sharma, agriculture scientists, professors and heads of departments, students were present in the programme.WTN
