Bhopal: The two-day national workshop on anemia management in pregnancy was organised in Kanha (Mandala district) by Madhya Pradesh Government and Government of India. Union minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Faggan Singh Kulaste said in the workshop that special efforts are needed for curbing anemia in remote rural areas. Maternity health experts of different states were present on the occasion.
Union MoS Kulaste appreciated the efforts made for prevention and treatment of anemia in the state. He said that special efforts are needed for women residing in remote rural areas. He said that every possible resource would be provided by the Government of India.
State's Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Rustam Singh said that advanced strategy should be prepared for the state, learning from the experience of Assam, Odisha and Maharashtra. The Health Minister apprised himself about the experiences of medical experts by having personal discussion with them on this important issue.
Principal Secretary Health Smt Gauri Singh, Commissioner Integrated Child Development Smt Pushpalata Singh also addressed the opening session of the workshop. Mission Director, National Health Mission, Madhya Pradesh, V Kiran Gopal made presentation on status of anemia in the state, reasons and efforts for its management. A booklet on strategy for management of anemia in Madhya Pradesh due to shortage of iron was released.
Dr. Sumita Ghosh and Dr. Sheela Deb, Deputy Commissioner, Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Government of India, and Dr. Sutapa Bandopadhyay Niyogi, Dr. Uday Thanawala, Dr. Vinita Das, Dr. Rajkumar, Dr. Aruna Kumar, Dr. Punam Shivkumar and Dr. Manju Chhugani took part in technical sessions on the first day.
The workshop will help in framing strategy for services being rendered at health institutions and community levels for prevention and treatment of anemia in pregnant women in the country. State will make this strategy part of their programme as per their needs.
Today in workshop
On the last day of the two-day workshop, information will be given by different experts in Kanha. Experts will give information mainly methods for measurement of hemoglobin, sickle cell anemia during pregnancy, abortion care and anemia. Subject experts from different states will give presentations. -WTN
