Find Permanent Solutions For Disaster Prone Places

Minister Gupta in State Level 'Disaster Risk Reduction' Workshop  

Bhopal: Minister for Science and Technology Umashankar Gupta said that a permanent solution should be found for disaster prone places. He further mentioned that it is must to find reasons of calamities and adoption of permanent solution regarding protection of places which are facing calamities constantly. Also action plan should be made to prevent calamities. Gupta said this in the inauguration progarmme of State level Workshop 'Disaster Risk Reduction' held to make disaster risk reduction as important component of development schemes. Two day workshop is being organised by Madhya Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority with cooperation of UNICEF.

Gupta further said that maintenance of material adopted for disaster management is must. He said that the list of the essential material available with the departments should be made. Moreover, Gupta mentioned that deliberations on how to reduce possibilities of calamities should be made. Repetition of incident of similar nature at one place must be assessed. He told the experts present on the occasion that contemplation should be made to eliminate chances of calamities.

All the departments play an important role in disaster management and they should work in coordination. Also citizens and society should be made a part to avoid calamities. Gupta mentioned that result obtained from the workshop and suggestions should be proposed to the state government for effective implementation. The suggestions will be implemented after bringing them to the notice of Chief Minister.

Secretary Home D.P. Gupta said that deliberations will be made on participation of all the departments in disaster management in the workshop. Prearrangements and readiness to prevent disaster can avoid big disaster. Explaining difference between Hogo and Sendai Framework, Gupta informed in context to guide provided by the National Disaster Management Authority to update disaster management schemes. Chief Field Officer UNICEF Micheal Steven Juma shed light on the objectives of the workshop. Moreover he gave information on Sendai Framework 2015-30 on the occasion.

Member National Disaster Management Authority Kamal Kishore explained loss related to infrastructure. He informed that all the concerned departments have been told to prepare their separate schemes for disaster risk reduction in development works. Mortality rate due to disaster in India have been controlled during the last ten years.

Vice President DMI Nandan Dubey gave suggestions on training related to disaster management and public awareness. Vice Chair Person State Disaster Management Authority Surendra Singh informed on upgradation of state level departmental and district level disaster management action plan. CEO Odisha Disaster Management Authority Kamal Lochan Mishra deliberated in detail about remedies taken related to flood and typhoon in Odisha.

Discussions on action plan of Home Guards and Civil Defence, Relief, Public Health and Family Welfare, Public Works, Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development, Animal Husbandry, Public Health Engineering, Rural Engineering Services, Narmada Valley Development Authority, Madhya Pradesh State Planning Commission and departmental disaster management action plan of Indian Meteorological Department took place in the workshop. Chief of DRR section of UNICEF Lars Bernd and Senior Officers of National Disaster Management Authority and other states' Disaster Management Authority beside departments of Madhya Pradesh were present in the workshop.-WTN
