Maintain Quality of Potable Water

Minister Smt. Mehdele Dedicates New Building of State Research Laboratory 

Bhopal: Minister for Public Health Engineering Smt. Kusum Mehdele said that quality of potable water should be better. Potable water testing and research process should be continued constantly. Smt. Mehdele was dedicating the new building of State Research Laboratory situated at Shyamla Hills today.
Smt. Mehdele said that the department is responsible to provide clean potable water to the people. She informed that the State Research Laboratory is the only water testing laboratory of the state, in which free testing of rural potable water sources, testing of private potable water sources on charge and testing of main components related to sewage are conducted. Also testing of chemicals' purity used in water treatment is conducted in this laboratory. Moreover, guidance is taken from the laboratory to solve the water quality problems by urban bodies and the departments of the central and state governments. All these works are important and related to the common citizens.
Chief Engineer G.S. Damore informed that the laboratory was established for testing of water and sewage water in the year 1960. The main aim of the laboratory was to provide guidance in water quality area besides testing of special parameters. At present testing of temperature, turbidity, colour, P.H., conductivity, alkalinity, chloride, hardness, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, iron, manganese, sulphate, fluoride, arsenic, purity of chemicals are conducted in the laboratory. Also accreditation certificate to the laboratory has been given by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration, New Delhi.

Principal Secretary P.H.E. Manoj Govil welcomed Smt. Mehdele in the beginning of the programme. Smt. Mehdele also inspected the various sections of the laboratory.-WTN
