Campaign to Abolish Use of ‘Widow’ Word Begins

Delicacies made from Surjana,Anwla, Mahua and Herbal Colours Exhibited in Poshan Exhibition 
Bhopal: In a state level programme held on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Minister for Women and Child Development Smt. Archana Chitnis said that there is a need to abolish custom of word ‘Widow’ prevailing in the society for women empowerment and positive image. Smt. Chitnis in the presence of the Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the state government is constantly active in the leadership of the Chief Minister for women empowerment. Widow word indicates weak image and helplessness of women. She urged CM Mr. Chouhan to take initiative beginning from state level to abolish use of word widow for improvement in image and to build complete image full of confidence.

Smt. Chitnis said that in the way Union Government has started use of ‘Divyang’ word, similarly positive word should be used for widows. Smt. Chitnis informed about works carried out towards women empowerment, women health and women’ self-reliance. Assembly Speaker Dr. Sitasaran Sharma, Deputy Speaker Assembly Mr. Rajendra Singh, Minister of State Smt. Lalita Yadav and Leader of Opposition Mr. Ajay Singh were present in the programme.

Exhibition focusing Nutrition awareness was organized on the occasion. Food items consisting proteins and nutrition elements prepared from economical material available at local level were exhibited. Delicious snacks, Mr.khand made from soybean and stalls having children’s favourite items were put up by the Agriculture Engineering Institute-Bhopal. Similarly, Biscuits made by Surjana, Anwla chips, syrup of Ber and Adrak (Plum and Ginger), Pudi of Mahua, Juice, Pickles, Munga Barfi, Gujiya, Pakoda and herbal colours prepared by Tesu, Turmeric and Sindoor were made available in the exhibition for sale by Agriculture Science Centers. Also pictures of eminent women personalities and information about them exhibited in the exhibition.-WTN
