5th Asian School Hockey Championship in Bhopal from April 3

Arrangements are being made by School Education Department 

Bhopal: Fifth Asian School Hockey Championship will be held in Bhopal from April 3 to 12. Boys under 18 years of age will take part in the championship.

Arrangements regarding championship are being made speedily. About 192 players and officers of 8 countries including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Srilanka, U.A.E., Bangladesh and China besides host India are participating in the cahmpionship.

Various committees have been formed for coordination with other departments beside main committee. Wide arrangements have been made by the School Education Department to facilitate maximum numbers of children to watch matches. Inauguration programme will be held at Tatya Tope stadium near New Market on April 3. Cultural programmes focusing cultural diversity of India will be organized on the occasion of inaugural programme. All the day and night matches will be held in Aish Bagh stadium from April 4. A total of 26 matches will be played and closing ceremony will be held in Aish Bagh stadium on April 11.

Indian Team

Indian team comprising 18 members have been selected for the championship. It may be mentioned that a camp was organised to select team at Major Dhyanchand stadium, Tulsi Nagar on March 8 and 9. Three players namely Sourabh Pasine, Mohammad Alishan and Shaqib ur Rahman from Madhya Pradesh have been selected in Indian team. Moreover, a camp is being organised at Major Dhyanchand stadium for practice from March 18 to 31.

Competition will be held on league cum knock out basis. Eight teams have been divided in 2 pools. Malaysia, Srilanka, China and U.A.E. are part of the ‘A’ pool whereas pool ‘B’ is consist of Bangladesh, India, Singapore and Thailand. Teams obtaining places on first two positions of each pool will play semi final matches.-WTN
