Tibetan Dharmaguru Dalai Lama’s Lecture on ‘Art of Being Happy’ 

Bhopal: All religions teach us to co-exist with love, compassion, mutual harmony and brotherhood. To bring happiness in our lives it is important to think about the good of others and maintain feelings of love and compassion towards others.

Dharmaguru Dalai Lama was addressing a gathering during his lecture on ‘Art of being happy’ organized today at the Vidhan Sabha Mansarovar auditorium. Among those who were present on the occasion were Assembly Speaker Dr. Sitasaran Sharma, Finance Minister Jayant Malaiyya, Minister of State (independent charge) for Cooperatives Vishwas Sarang, people’s representatives and several elite citizens. Dalai Lama dedicated the Anand calendar prepared by the Rajya Anand Sansthan to the public. This calendar is also available on the Sansthan’s website www.anandsansthanmp.in.
Dharmaguru Dalai Lama lauded the constitution of Happiness Department by the State Government with the aim of generating happiness in people’s lives. He said that the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s initiative of ‘Narmada Seva Yatra’ towards environment and water conservation was indeed commendable. He stressed on the need to include subjects like love, compassion and ‘Sarvadharma Sambhav’ in school curriculum at the primary level.

Dharmaguru Dalai Lama said that modern education system focuses on physical development whereas spiritual education was important to obtain inner peace. He said that a mother is the first teacher of a child and it is she who teaches children the first lesson of love, compassion and affection. He said that prosperity or happiness has nothing to do with being rich or poor. Prosperity depends on our thinking. He said that no religion can be considered the best or complete in itself instead all religions have their own individual specialties. Just like there is no medicine for every illness, likewise different religions have been established for people with different mentalities. Dharmaguru Dalai Lama said that all religions must discourage caste system. There should be no caste-based discrimination in the society and everyone must be given equal respect. Dharmaguru Dalai Lama said that everyone must refrain from anger and jealousy. Remembering his mother, he said that his mother was very kind and it was from her that he had developed feelings of love and kindness. Dalai Lama said that everyone must study at any age. He said that at the age of 82, he still reads books regularly.

In his welcome address, Finance Minister Jayant Malaiyya said that Dharmaguru Dalai Lama today took part in the Narmada Seva Yatra and praised the efforts being made in the direction of river and environment conservation.

In his address through the choupais of Ramcharit Manas, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr. Sitasaran Sharma said that there is no bigger joy than meeting saints. Sharma lauded the activities of the Happiness Department constituted by the State Government. He said that he was happy at the arrival of Dharmaguru Dalai Lama to the Vidhan Sabha auditorium during his tenure as Speaker. Sharma said that the Happiness department was successful in fulfilling its objective in the company of saints.

Lastly, Minister of State (independent charge) for Cooperatives Vishwas Sarang proposed the vote of thanks. Earlier, the guests inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Among those present on the occasion were Additional Chief Secretary Happiness Department Iqbal Singh Bais, Principal Secretary Culture Manoj Shrivastav and Commissioner Culture Rajesh Mishra and other officials.-WTN
