Shift excess rain-affected people from water-logged areas to safer places
Ensure arrangements in meetings of District Disaster Management Committee
Chief Minister Chouhan issues instructions in high-level meeting
Bhopal 22 August 2020: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the condition of excess rainfall in the state in a high-level meeting today and directed to ensure protection of the public from the situation of waterlogging and provide necessary relief. Chouhan said that the Disaster Control Centre at district headquarters should remain active for 24 hours. The meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee should be held immediately and a thorough review of the extreme rainfall and relief efforts should be done. Chief Minister Chouhan directed that all collectors should keep an eye on the condition of large dams and reservoirs in the district. The concerned staff should remain alert and cautious. Constant contact should be made with the control room of Narmada Valley Development Department so that all necessary arrangements can be made in case of water logging and opening of dams. Divisional commissioners should ensure regular monitoring and not lag behind in resolving difficult issues. In the event of floods, rescue teams should be prepared and equipped with tools useful for disaster relief. Chief Minister Chouhan also inquired about the current status of crops.
Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Director General of Police Vivek Johri, Additional Chief Secretary S.N. Mishra and other officials were present in today’s meeting.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that there is no serious situation due to extreme rain in the state, but efforts should be made to save the common man from trouble by being completely alert. Collectors should also be in constant contact with the collectors of the border districts for sharing and coordinating information on the flood situation.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that people living in wards or rural areas affected by water logging, or where water has entered the settlements, should be shifted to safe places. Adequate arrangements for food, drinking water, shelter should be ensured at relief sites. District level control rooms should work with utmost diligence. The concerned staff should remain alert to discharge their duties.
People must avoid going to picnic spots, caution is necessary
Chief Minister Chouhan also asked the administrative staff to ensure that people avoid going to such picnic spots in the district where people visit to see the waterfall. Necessary precautions should be taken for safety at such places. Chief Minister Chouhan has also requested the common man to take precautions by leaving the temptation to visit such places.
Water level of rivers, reservoirs and dams
Chief Minister Chouhan also sought information about the districts facing excess rainfall and the water level of rivers and dams. It was informed in the meeting that Hoshangabad, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Ujjain, Dhar, Shajapur, Khandwa districts besides Bhopal-Indore have received maximum rainfall in the state. Except for three districts, more than normal rainfall has been recorded everywhere. The water level of Narmada in Kareli, Hoshangabad, Mortaka is well below the danger mark. The water level of Tamas, Ken, Tons, Chambal, Parvati, Betwa is also much below danger mark in Sirmaur, Gunnaur, Maihar, Nagda, Barkheda, Maksudangarh and Neemkheda respectively. Among the reservoirs, the water level of Bargi Jabalpur is 421 meters, Tawa, Hoshangabad water level 352 meters, Barna Raisen water level 345 meters, Indira Sagar reservoir Khandwa water level 256 meters, Omkareshwar 194 meters and Bansagar reservoir is 341 meters.
Agriculture Department ready to advise farmers
Chief Minister Chouhan also obtained information about the current status of crops in the state. Chouhan said that if the crops are affected due to excess rainfall, then necessary guidance should be provided to the farmers. Principal Secretary Agriculture Ajit Kesari said that at present, there is a problem of pests and diseases on crops. The Department of Farmers Welfare and Agricultural Development has issued instructions to visit the area by forming teams in the districts. Farmers are being advised by agricultural scientists to solve problem of pests and diseases. Financial assistance is also provided to the farmers in the departmental scheme. In the event of waterlogging, farmers are being given necessary advice regarding drainage. Instructions have also been given to construct a control room at the district level for daily review.
