Narmada Seva Mission Constituted

Bhopal: State government has taken a decision to constitute Narmada Seva Mission for Narmada river protection and conservation. Director of the mission will be Additional Chief Secretary, planning, economics and statistics. State-level execution committee will constantly monitor mission works under the Chairmanship of Mission Director. Principal Advisor or Advisor State Planning Commission will be Mission Coordinator. Member of mission included Additional Chief Secretary Forests, Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development, Additional Chief Secretary Narmada Valley Development and Principal Secretaries of Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development, Water Resources, Horticulture and Food Processing, Environment, Tourism, Urban Development and Housing, Fishermen Welfare and Fisheries Development, Animal Husbandry, Rural Industries, Revenue, Minerals, Culture, New and Renewable Energy Development, Science and Technology Development, Commerce, Industries and Employment, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Departments, Executive Director Jan Abhiyan Parishad and five subject experts nominated by Chief Minister and Representatives of five voluntary and Social organisations working for protection and conservation of the Narmada river.
District level Committee
District-level execution committee will be constituted under the Chairmanship of Collector for execution of the mission. Chief Executive Officer District Panchayat, Deputy Director Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development, Deputy/Assistant Director, Horticulture, General Manager District Industries Centre, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, Executive Engineer Water Resources, Deputy /Assistant director Fisheries department, District Mining Officer, Chief Executive Officers of all local bodies of the district, Divisional Engineer of Energy Department, Deputy Director of Cottage and Rural Industries, District Coordinator of Jan Abhiyan Parishad, District Planning Officer Economics and Statistics, Five representatives of voluntary and social organisations working in protection and conservation of Narmada river and nominated by district collector.
Mission works
Protection of river banks' areas through plantation, upgraded
sanitation management, liquid and solid waste management, community and individual sanitation management, water collection and development of river basin area, pollution control and management, bio farming and encouragement to good agriculture practices, sensitive and clean agriculture development, to connection
Narmada river protection
and conservation with livelihood, ensure proper use of river resources, development healthy ecological system in river area, ensure capacity enhancement and contribution of society in Narmada river protection and conservation and build addiction-free society in the
areas of river banks have been included in the works of Narmada Seva Mission.
Evaluation and coordination
The mission will carry out evaluation and coordination in works being done by different departments. The works of the mission include
plantation on private and government land for increasing cover of forests, development clean life style, development of alternate agriculture like promote bio farming by studying modern agriculture method and its adverse impact on river and environment, identify and redress factors causing pollution, increase society's contribution in Narmada protection and conservation ensuring livelihood, development of new technology, research and adoption, execution of announcements made by the Chief Minister during Narmada Seva Yatra.
Besides, constant efforts in the direction of reducing challenges posing existence of Narmada river, collection and documentation of ancient traditional methods for protection of botanical and water conservation in Narmada river, accelerate works being done by government agencies for protection of bio-diversity in Narmada basin, ensure contribution of social and voluntary organisations with government agencies, setting up of Narmada Seva Kendra and Narmada Gyan Kendra and their operation for making all sections of the society literate towards river conservation, to connection international and national financial institutions for Narmada conservation works, work for maintaining sacredness of religious environment in Narmada region, ensure contribution of the society with government agencies in conservation, accept donation for river conservation, establish coordination in different departments and institutions for organising different functions like 'Nadi Mahotsava' for social contribution, develop healthy ecological system in river region and all the works which are necessary to achieve mission aims and targets.-WTN
