Music Festival in Dewas on April 8-9

Bhopal: Music Festival commemorating legendary classical vocalist Pandit Kumar Gandharva will be held in Dewas on April 8-9. On the first day of the festival, Rashtriya Kumar Gandharva Samman will be conferred to the artists for the year 2013 to 2016. Principal Secretary Culture Manoj Shrivastava told that the famous vocalist Smt. Manjari Asnare Kelkar of Nasik will be honoured with the Rashtriya Kumar Gandharva samman for the year 2013. Similarly, the well known Rudraveena player Shri Bahauddin Dagar of Mumbai, talented Koodiyattam danseuse Smt. Kapila Venu of Trichur and renowned vocalist Smt. Manjusha Kulakarni Patil of Pune will be honoured with Pandit Kumar Gandharva samman for the year 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively. The Principal Secretary Shrivastava informed that a cash reward of Rs. One lakh 25 thousand, plaque beside shawl and shriphal will be presented to the honoured artists. On the first day of the festival i.e. April 8, Vocalist Smt. Manjusha Kulkarni Patil followed by Bahauddin Dagar will showcase their performances. On April 9, performances of vocalist Smt. Manjari Asnare Kelkar and Koodiyattam dance of Smt. Kapila Venu will be held. In addition to this the talented duet artists Shubhendra Rao and Saskia Rao-de Haas will present duet on sitar and cello. The festival will be held in Malhar Smiriti Mandir of Dewas from 7.30 p.m. and entry is free for the audience.-WTN
