Bhopal 08 December 2020: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s two-day “Virtual FICCI TURF-2020” Global Sports Summit was inaugurated by Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Kiran Rijiju. On this occasion, the State’s Sports and Youth Welfare Minister, Yashodhara Raje Scindia was also present. For the first time in this conference, a sports and fitness exhibition was organized through webinar. Also, the Sports Award was given by FICCI for achievements of Indian players.

Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Kiran Rijiju said that the sports industry can play a significant role in changing India’s GDP. He said that lack of sports culture has slowed us down. Sports is considered one of the world’s largest industries in terms of employment and revenue generation. Rijiju said that to fulfill the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India, we must also develop a personal mindset towards sports. A sporting country can be made not only by the contribution of the state but also by the participation of its people. The new education policy also talks about sports promotion.

State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia said that Madhya Pradesh state has currently emerged as a change maker in sports. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh had no name in the field of sports, but sports have been given a new direction under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Today, Olympic players with better infrastructure, international level sports facilities and coaches are available in the state. Scindia said that we have proved that the state government can also become a change maker in sports. She said that at present 19 different sports academies are operating in the state. When the first women’s hockey academy was started in 2006, women’s hockey was not very popular. The current Indian women’s team has 60 percent of players from Madhya Pradesh State Academy. It is a matter of pride for us. The state is constantly winning medals in various sports at the international level. Scindia said that at present we are training coaches and players on mental wellness, sports science etc. in coordination with international Loughborough University. She said that we are motivating them for training in the academy by organizing various talent search programme to promote rural talent.

International Badminton player PV Sindhu said that such events will give a new direction to Sports. Sports promote the ability to change the negativity in our lives and enhance our capacity to live in discipline.
