Various Programmes to be Organised at 22 Places of State

Photo Exhibition will be Held in State Museum Bhopal 

Bhopal: On the occasion of World Heritage Day i.e. April 18, exhibitions, lectures, research, seminar, photo exhibition and painting competitions will be held in 22 Archaeology Museums of the state. An 8 day long photo exhibition on selected rock paintings of world heritage Bhimbetka will be held at State Museum-Bhopal besides lectures of Prof. Sheela Mishra of Deccan College, Pune on Mehtakhedi excavation.

Commissioner Archaeology Anupam Rajan informed that a ‘Heritage Walk’ will be organised from Rani Kamlapati Palace on April 18 at 7.00 a.m. to get acquainted with the heritage memorials of Bhopal. The walk covering Hammam, Gouhar Mahal, Moti Masjid, Iqbal Maidan, Sheesh Mahal, Shoukat Mahal will culminate at Sadar Manzil.

Programmes at Archaeology Museums

A photo exhibition on Baudhha statues will be held at District Headquarters Rewa. Similarly, photo exhibition of copper statues at Tulsi Museum Ramvan district Satna, painting competition at District Archaeology Museum Shahdol, photo exhibition focussing forts of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur, photo exhibition on Nandi statues at Mandla, photo exhibition of Shivlingam at Gujari Mahal Museum –Gwalior, photo exhibition on murals photos at Morena, painting competition at Bhind, exhibition focussing memorials of Budelkhand at Sagar, photo exhibition on remarkable adornment of Mahakaal at Damoh, photo exhibition focussing memorials of Madhya Pradesh at Dhubela (Chhatarpur), photo exhibition on Adishakti Parvati at Panna, research seminar on architecture and history of Bundelkhand at Jehangir Mahal Orchha –Tikamgarh, Sikko ki Kahani based photo exhibition at Rajgarh, painting competition at Vidisha, lectures on world heritage at Ujjain and Dewas, photo exhibition on musical instruments at Mandsaur, research seminar at Burhanpur and exhibition on Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatriya (Funerary Monuments) at Maheshwar will be held.

Exhibition on Rock Paintings at State Museum

Rajan further informed that rock paintings of Bhimbetka are the world famous and the most ancient rock paintings’ cluster. The selected rock paintings of Bhimbetka will be exhibited through photos in the State Museum-Bhopal.

Rajan informed that Bhimbetka rock paintings’ cluster comprises Vineka, Bhonrawli, Bhimbetka, Lakhajwar East, Lakhajwar West, Jondara and hills of Moni Baba etc. After the archaeological excavation in the caves of Bhimbetka, the archaeological remains from Stone Age to middle ages have come to the light.

According to Rajan the cupmarks and photos etc. made in the caves are indicative of human beings interest in art. Scenes of thousands years earlier focussing daily life, dance, birds and animals are displayed. This rock paintings cluster are preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. Bhimbetka has been included in the world heritage by the UNESCO.-WTN
