Bhopal 08 December 2021: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the Union Cabinet for approving the Ken-Betwa project of interlinking of rivers. Chief Minister Chouhan said that this project is a boon for Bundelkhand region and also a new dawn. Chief Minister Chouhan said that Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Damoh, Sagar, Datia, Shivpuri, Vidisha and Raisen districts of Madhya Pradesh would be benefited upon completion of this project costing Rs 44 thousand 605 crore. In addition, 103 Mega Watt of hydropower and 27 Mega Watt of solar power will be generated. The project will also bring happiness and prosperity to Bundelkhand.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that the Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has today approved funding and implementation for the Ken-Betwa river interlinking project. An amount of Rs 39 thousand 317 crore has been sanctioned for the project as central support, Rs 36 thousand 290 crore as grant-in-aid and Rs 3,027 crore as loan. This project will also pave the way for other river interlinking projects in India.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that Ken-Betwa link is the first national project in the country to take shape under the National River Linking Project, which is an ambitious national project in the form of the dream of former Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee. A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed in the presence of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Prime Minister to prepare the detailed DPR of the project.
Project Benefits
The picture of the drought-prone Bundelkhand region of the state will change after the project takes shape.
Irrigation facilities will be available in 8 lakh 11 thousand hectare area in Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh, which will increase agricultural production and bring prosperity.
41 lakh population of the state affected by water crisis will get drinking water facilities.
The project will improve the ground water level.
Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Damoh, Sagar, Datia, Shivpuri, Vidisha, Raisen districts of the state will be benefitted by the project.
The project will generate 103 Mega Watt of electricity, which will be fully utilized by Madhya Pradesh.
Industrialization and investment will be encouraged in Bundelkhand region if there is water supply.
Employment opportunities will be available in the Bundelkhand region.
Self-reliance will come to the general public at the local level and migration of people from the area will stop.
Tourism will be promoted in Bundelkhand region.
Ken-Betwa Link National Project will irrigate 70 thousand hectares in Panna district, 3 lakh 11 thousand 151 hectares in Chhatarpur, 20 thousand 101 hectares in Damoh, 50 thousand 112 hectares in Tikamgarh and Niwari, 90 thousand hectares in Sagar, 6 thousand hectares in Raisen, 20 thousand hectares in Vidisha, 76 thousand hectares in Shivpuri and 14 thousand hectares in Datia district. In addition, adequate drinking water will also be available.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Ken-Betwa link project will undoubtedly develop new dimensions of self-reliance and prosperity for the drought-prone Bundelkhand region. This will increase agricultural production, increase the income of the people and improve the standard of living. The vision of inclusive development will come true and there will be happiness among the common people.
