Pay immediate attention to reduce intensity of city floods

Bhopal: The National Disaster Management Authority has advised all states to pay attention to reduce intensity of city floods. The Authority has advised to identify maximum flood level and set up city flood management cell in every city. The Authority has released an advisory in this connection.

The Disaster Management Authority has told to set up Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) as per city scenario to control city floods. Stakeholders have been advised to organize a workshop before monsoons and then collect information about the situation of water bodies and a list of ownership, mapping, cleaning of drains and establish coordination.

The Management Authority told the nodal officers to set up portable water pumps in flood-prone areas apart from apprising the Nagar Nigam Commissioner from time to time and warn before heavy rains and storm. As per the Authority, by issuing the alert on time the prevention related measures will be taken. The National Disaster Management Authority advised to form a committee of high level experts to release water from reservoirs.-WTN
