Free Dialysis Facility in Government Hospitals of M.P.

Bhopal: Free dialysis facility is being provided to patients suffering from kidney diseases in 51 district hospitals of the state from January 26, 2016. An amount of Rs. 25 crore has been provided to the department to expand this facility in other government hospitals. Madhya Pradesh is the first state of the country where free dialysis facility is being provided at district level. Considering Madhya Pradesh as a role model state, the Union Government has made announcement for establishment of dialysis unit in every district of the country.
It may be mentioned that normally patients need dialysis twice in a week. An amount of about Rs. 20-25 thousand was incurred by the patient in a month. This dialysis facility is being provided free of cost to the patients belonging to below poverty line and at a mere amount of Rs. 500 per session to the above poverty line patients. Now the patients suffering from kidney diseases who were used to go to the big cities or out of state earlier have started getting this facility in their districts itself.

Shakir Mohammed, 32 years old resident of Kareli district Narsinghpur informed that he was undergoing dialysis at private hospital of Jabalpur earlier. He used to spent Rs. 2500 for every visit. Similarly, 40 years old Smt. Vimla Bai of village Magarda said that she is on dialysis constantly since March 2016 and she has availed benefit of this free facility 96 times. It was impossible for her to afford treatment expenses if she was not getting the government assistance. Her relatives mentioned that this free dialysis facility is proved to be boon for the patients.-WTN
