Sowing of Kharif in over 109 lakh hectare in state so far

Bhopal: So far 109 lakh 28 thousand hectare kharif has been sown in Kharif season this year in the state. This Kharif season, the sowing programme is for 132 lakh 46 thousand hectare area this year. State’s farmers have sown urad on 16 lakh 23 thousand hectare area this year which is more than the fixed target. The target sowing of urad this year in state is 12 lakh hectare.

Farmers have sown soyabean in 45 lakh 56 thousand area in the state. In Kharif season, kharif will be sown in about 52 lakh hectare area. July 15 is considered the appropriate time for sowing of soyabean in state. The Farmer Welfare Department has advised farmers that those of them who have sown soyabean should arrange pegs in the field on which birds will perch on it and destroy worms. Farmers should arrange to drain-out the water in fields facing submergence conditions. Farmers have been advised to control weed in crops that are more than 20 days old.

Farmers have been told if they spot other pests on the crop, they should inform about it to the agriculture expansion officer and arrange pesticides. Farmers can now sow mainly delayed varieties of pulses, jwar, corn and chara. So far 438.7 average rainfall has been recorded in state whereas the average rainfall during this period in state should be 437.4 mm.

Paddy has been sown in 13 lakh 20 thousand hectare and corn in 12 lakh 58 thousand hectare area in state. Farmers have sown cotton in nearly5 lakh 73 thosand hectare area.-WTN
