Commercial Tax Department informs businessmen

Bhopal: The GST Act has been made effective in Madhya Pradesh from July 1. Facility to deposit tax amount online and submission of tax returns has been availed on GST web portal to businessmen in the state. Traders in big number took the advantage of this facility.

Before the implementation of GST (Goods and Service Tax), businessmen used to get registered separately for different taxes collected by the centre and state government. Businessmen also used to pay tax and tax returns separately to the centre and the state government. Different taxes to be collected by the centre and the state have been merged after implementation of the GST. That's why now businessmen have no need to get registered separately with the centre and the state and submit different tax returns. The department informed that there is no confusion among businessmen on it.

The commercial tax department informed that the businessmen, who were registered on taxation departments of the centre and the state, are shown as registered trader on GST portal after migration. It can not be said that information regarding registered traders were not shared by the centre and the state.

Registered traders carry out most of their legal works online through GSTN portal but businessmen have not been divided between the state and the centre for administrative point of view.  The department has decided a formula for division and soon they will be divided. The department clarifies that neither traders' work is affecting due to the division, at present, nor the working of the centre and state.

Information regarding tax returns submitted through GSTN portal by traders is visible to officers in circle offices and district level offices of the centre and the state both on GSTN portal, and they are under monitoring. The department also said that GST is new system, in which traders are facing difficulties at the beginning. Officers of commercial tax department are resolving their difficulties at the time of submission of tax returns by telephoning personally to traders. Help-desk has been set up in offices of commercial tax department.

It has also been clarified that dues under different Acts before implementation of GST will be deposited as per the old Acts. Traders have been requested to take help from Help Desk opened in offices.-WTN
