Indore third in the country in maximum organ donations

Bhopal: After Mumbai and New Delhi, Indore is the third place in the country where maximum organ donations have been recorded. In the last two years, 26 persons have donated their organs here due to which more than 80 persons could be saved. From November this year the process of Bone Marrow transplant will begin in Indore’s M.Y. Hospital. The bodies received through donation will be helpful for study by medical students.
This information was given at the divisional workshop of Society for Organ Donation in Indore today. Commissioner Indore Sanjay Dubey presided over at the conclusion of the workshop. It was told at the workshop that there is a demand for 2 lakh kidneys in India every year but hardly 25 percent demand is met. Spain is doing the best work in organ donations.
Sanjay Dubey told at the workshop that complete transparency is being maintained in the field of organ donation in Indore. There is a system of online registration of both the donor and the receiver. There is arrangement of organ donations based on first come-first served. The post mortem of the deceased is conducted within 24 hours after approval obtained from the donor’s family in the presence of a government doctor. Two members of the donor’s family are provided the benefit of life-long health insurance. Under this facility, two members are rendered life-long free treatment.
Additional Director General of Police Ajay Kumar Sharma said at the workshop that in the last 2 years the 26th green corridor was made in Indore in which Indore Traffic Police is playing a major role.
Gynaecologist Dr. Rachna Dubey told at the workshop that any person who does not have a fatal disease like cancer or diabetes can donate his organs. Last month a 3-year-old baby girl donated her organs in Kerala. In organ donations, kidney, liver, skin, small intestines are brought in use. Kidneys are much in demand in India.
This demand can be met with the support of all alert persons. The problem of kidney failure is found in pregnant women also and even they can have kidney transplantation.-WTN
