Rekha Pandram’s Hard Work Bears Fruit: Farmers Become Self-Reliant due to Kodo-Kutki Crop

Bhopal: Smt. Rekha Pandram of Tribal dominant Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh has inspired farmers for organic farming by harvesting good crop adopting organic farming. Smt. Pandram who is originally from Mandla district got married to a person of village Phulvahi- block Mehandwani of Dindori district. This area of the district was lagging behind in agriculture due to hilly terrain and rough stony surface but Rekha Pandram connecting herself with the Tejasvini Nari Chetna Mahila Sangh has made this hilly terrain prosperous for the farming through her hard work and perseverance.
First of all, Rekha Pandram encouraged the farmers to cultivate Kodo-Kutki crop with new technique as other crops were not possible due to stony land. In the beginning,the farmers did not pay heed to the advice of Rekha Pandram. Despite this, she did not lose hope and courage and by changing her strategy advised the farmers to cultivate crops on 75 percent of their land with old method and on 25 percent of the land with new method. Farmers liked the advice of Rekha Pandram and sowed crop in their farm land as per the advice and found that they yielded good crop from the new method comparing to the old method. Now all the farmers are cultivating crops with the new technique accepting the advice of Rekha Pandram.
Today, over 3 thousand farmers of block Mehandwani are yielding good crop by growing Kodo-Kutki. Kodo processing unit has been established in the village Kathotiya in order to market Kodo-Kutki crop produced with the new technique. Twelve women are working here and 3 thousand farmers are connected with this unit.-Windowtonews
