Triple Talaq Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha due to ‘Political Management’ of the Modi Government

AUG 01 (WTN) - As you know, the Narendra Modi Government has made history by passing the Muslim Women's Marriage Protection Protection Bill 2019 (Triple Talaq Bill) in the Rajya Sabha. The Modi Government, which won a massive victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, had a majority to pass this bill in the Lok Sabha, but the Modi Government was in a minority in the Rajya Sabha. Triple Talaq Bill had been stuck for a long time due to lack of majority in the Rajya Sabha, but due to the efficient political management of the Modi Government, Triple Talaq Bill was finally passed in the Rajya Sabha.

In fact, there are two main reasons behind the passing of Triple Talaq Bill in the Rajya Sabha. One is the efficient political management of the Modi Government and second is the lack of unity in the opposition parties. However, many opposition parties including the Congress and some NDA parties were in opposition to this bill, but this bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha. Opposition parties including the Congress had suggested to the Government to send this bill to the select committee and present it another option, but the Government ignored the suggestions of the opposition.

After long arguments and disputes, the Modi Government has succeeded in passing the Triple Talaq Bill in the Rajya Sabha. But seeing the attitude of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, it was feared that this bill would not be passed once again. But the efficient political management of the Modi Government messed up the entire equation of the opposition.

For your information, let you know that despite the strong opposition from the opposition parties, the Modi Government has succeeded in passing its second important bill in the Rajya Sabha within a week while being minority. Prior to this, the Modi Government has been able to pass the Amendment in the Right to Information Bill from the Upper House.

During the voting on the Triple Talaq Bill in the Rajya Sabha, about 23 MPs of opposition parties were not present in the Rajya Sabha. The absence of these members was fully benefitted to the Modi Government. Those absent from the House during vote split were 4 MPs of Congress, 6 from Samajwadi Party, 4 from Bahujan Samaj Party, 2 from NCP, 2 of TDP, 2 of PDP, 1 of DMK, 1 of CPM and one member of TMC. Apart from this, the other 33 members, along with JD-U, AIADMK and TRS, were absent from the House.

There were 99 votes in favor of this bill and 84 were in opposition. For your information, let you know that the total number of members in the Rajya Sabha is 245, but due to the vacancy of five seats, this number is currently 240.  Let you know that 184 members voted on Triple Talaq Bill. In this way, 56 MPs were absent during the division. According to sources, the Modi Government activated its floor managers to pass this bill.

According to the information received from the sources, the Modi Government wanted to fulfill its election promise of Triple Talaq Bill in every situation. The floor managers of the Government were in touch with AIADMK, TRS and JDU in the Rajya Sabha. For this reason, the MPs of these parties also remained absent during the division. Because of this political management, the Modi Government has got success in passing the Triple Talaq Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

It is being said that due to the activism of the floor managers of the Government, 23 members of the opposition were absent from the House at the time of voting on Triple Talaq Bill. At the same time, 33 MPs of NDA and other parties were not present during this time. Even after having passed Triple Talaq Bill in the Rajya Sabha when Modi government is in minority, the Modi Government has proved how efficient the political management of the Government is.
