Girl students raise voice against injustice
Girl students favor Hyderabad encounter; say “the right decision was taken at the right time”
DEC 08 (WTN) - The gang-rape of the Veterinary Doctor in Hyderabad and the subsequent brutal murder and burning of the body had left the entire nation miserable and embarrassed. Girls and women started questioning society, are they not safe? The whole society was embarrassed by the incident held in Hyderabad, why we are not able to give protection to women. The accused of the incident with the Veterinary Doctor were finally apprehended by the police, and the whole country was demanding that they should be hanged till death as soon as they are proved guilty.
But on the intervening night of December 5 and 6, the Hyderabad police had an encounter with the accused of rape and murder. While some people, on the Hyderabad Police encounter, say that this method is wrong, but the majority of people are of the opinion that the police did exactly what they should have done with the accused of rape and murder. When we discussed this with the girl students studying in the institutes of People's University in Bhopal, they clearly said that which type of the abominable act was done by the accused along with the Veterinary Doctor, they should have been punished like that.
The students of the People's College of Dental Sciences and Research Center, Sanjana Bansal, Shrishti Mishra, and Vijaya Gupta, say that what the Hyderabad Police have done with the accused of rape and murder is the right decision taken at the right time. If this case were to run in court, it would have taken years for the victim's family to get justice. According to the girl students, delay in getting justice is a kind of injustice in itself. It has been seven years in the Nirbhaya case, but the culprits have not yet been hanged. In the case of rape and murder of any woman, the government should make provision of the hanging sentences as soon as possible.
On the other hand, Pooja Ahirwar, Shaily Namdev, and Anita Patel, students of the People's Institute of Pharmacy & Research Center have also said the action of the Hyderabad Police is correct. According to the girl students, any mercy and delay in the punishment of a heinous crime like rape and murder is an injustice to the victim and her family. Whatever the accused did to the Veterinary Doctor, their punishment was ultimately death. But if they would have been hanged by judicial process, it could have taken a long time, in such a case, the Hyderabad Police has set an example by encountering the accused of the heinous crime.
Anjana Vishwakarma, Kiran, and Savita Lodhi, studying at Peoples College of Nursing & Research Center, also believe that the action of Hyderabad Police Encounter is not wrong. If these accused tried to escape and attacked the police, then the encounter is the best way for those accused of heinous crimes like rape and murder. When such encounters occur, fear will arise in the minds of criminals spread in society. It is the duty of the government to ensure the safety of women, while it is the court's responsibility to punish the culprits as soon as possible if incidents of rape and murder occur with women.
