AUG 01 (WTN) - Lord Vishnu has been called as the feeder of the world in the Vedas and Puranas. In Hindu religion, it is believed that Lord Vishnu gives the result of all the fair and unfair deeds related to human life. The chanting of Vishnu Sahastranama is very important in the worship of Lord Vishnu in the Trinity. In this psalm, there are thousand names of Shri Hari in the Vishnu Sahastranama.
One thousand names of Lord Vishnu are mentioned in the chapter 'Anushasan Parv’ in the Mahabharata composed by Vedrishi Vyas. According to the Mahabharata, when Bhishma was laying on the bed of arrows and waiting for the right time for his death, he told Yudhisthira the thousand names of Lord Vishnu.
Curiously, when Yudhisthira asked Bhishma, "Who is found everywhere and who is the most powerful?" Then Bhishma had told one thousand names of Lord Vishnu to Yudhishthira. Famous for his pledge, Bhishma Pitamah said to Yudhishtir with a thousand names of Lord Vishnu, "It will be best to listen and read these thousand names for the fulfillment of the desires in every era."

The biggest feature of Vishnu Sahastranama is that it works to connect two major sects of Hinduism, Shaiva and Vaishnava.
