Turmeric and basil is prohibited in Shivlinga worshiping
AUG 05 (WTN) - Lord Shiva's worship in the month of Savan has special significance. It is said that Devadhidev Mahadev is pleased very soon if one worships with devotion. Lord Shiva has been considered as beginning and infinite, that is, he is pervading everywhere. Pooja of Shivalinga is of utmost importance in Hindu religion. But do you know that there are some rules for worshiping Shiva?
There is such a lot of material in Shivalinga Puja or Shiva Puja which is forbidden to offer them. You also know which material is said to be forbidden in Shiva Puja.
Turmeric - Turmeric is very important in Hindu religious beliefs. But turmeric should not be invoked in the worship of Lord Shiva. Turmeric is used in cosmetics. According to the scriptures, Shivling is a symbol of masculinity; therefore turmeric should not be invoked in the worship of Neelkanth Mahadev.
Flowers - It is believed that flowers like kaner, lotus, kettle, kavda should never be presented to Lord Shiva.
Kumkum or Roli - According to the theology, Kumkum and Roli should never be presented to Lord Mahadev.
Conch - As you know, conch is very dear to Lord Vishnu. But Lord Shiva had killed devil Shankhurur, so that the conch is considered taboo in the worship of Lord Shiva.
Coconut water - Coconut water should never be anointed to Lord Shiva. For your information, let you know that coconut is considered as the form of Lakshmi, therefore, in all the auspicious work, coconut is accepted as a boon (Prasad). Coconut water is not acceptable after the anointing to Shivling.
Tulsi Dal - It is believed that the leaves of Tulsi should not be offered to Lord Shiva. According to one mythological story, devil King Jalandhar was killed by Lord Shiva, whose wife Vrinda had become a plant of Tulsi. Therefore, Vrinda had said of not using the Basil (Tulsi) leaves in worship of Lord Shiva.
