WTN- Within the arthropods, spiders occupy a taxonomic class called the arachnids, a group comprising a diverse array of other creatures including mites, ticks and scorpions. The horseshoe crab is closely related as well. Arachnids have a two –part body and eight legs. Spiders in particular have silk glands and use the contents to spin webs and to encase their eggs or prey.
Most spiders produce venom and inject in to their prey through one pair of mouthparts, the chelicerae, which act like fangs. The other pair of mouthparts, called pedipalps or pincers, are used to sense prey.
Tenacious predators, spiders and other arachnids are unable to ingest prey whole and must liquefy it by squirting it with digestive juices before sucking up the mushy contents.
The pedipalps in scorpions have developed into claws. Scorpions also have stingers at the end of their tails and use them to inject highly toxic venom into their prey. Scorpions occupy crevices and burrows during the day and come out at night hunt.
Mites and ticks occur in almost every habitat. Many of these abundant species are parasites , feeding on the fluids of other animals.
Crustaceans belong to a subphylum of arthropods, and represent some 45,000 species that display a wide variety of features .lobsters , crabs and shrimp are the most well known of the group.
Some crustaceans live on land , but most live in salt or fresh water. their heads usually sport tow pair of antennae, stalked eyes and three pair of biting mouthparts.
