Sikkim gets its first airport - Nested in the Himalayas at 4500 ft

WTN- Perched between the Himalayan ranges at a height of 4,500 ft, flights from Sikkim’s first ever airport in the small town of Pakyong are set to take off from September 23.
The Pakyong airport will be the country’s 100th functional airport — and on September 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fly in to inaugurate it.
The greenfield airport — the Northeast’s first — which has been conceived at a budget of Rs 605.59 crore is skilfully engineered to include soil reinforcement and slope stabilisation techniques.
